How about an update on congresspersons who have disengaged from J Street?

All the ones who had the good sense to remove themselves from the J St Host Committee are on the homepage of this blog. Scroll down below the Mets story.

As a supporter of Israel, I am happy to see that your organization is unabashedly pro-Israel and hope you will be aggressive on her behalf in the months and years ahead. Thank you.

Who are you and where are you based. I like what I’m reading and would like more info about your organization. It’s about time that a group like yours has emerged. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Does Z Street has a page on Facebook? Because if it does not than we need to creat one that way we can rally the younger generations.

By the way great work and I am with you.

It is the duty of every Jew to castigate another Jew when that person is doing something harmful to the Jewish community, such as is done by those former Jews who now follow the liberal religion. If you lose these people as friends, no great loss. I stand up for Israel and America every chance I get. I have offended some, but those people are not worth coddling. Just remember, SILENCE IS CONSENT!

How is z street responding to obama’s awarding the presidential medal of freedom to virulently anti-Semitic Mary Robinson? What a slap in the face to Jewish and decent people around the globe.

What is Z Streets official policy or position with respect to the right of self defense, both individually and as a Jewish people? As a Federal Firearms Licensee and Second Amendment advocate, I would be happy to further explore this issue with you.

I receive posts from Women in Green. They are clearly mirroring my feelings. How can Americam Jews be awakened? I had a thought.

There are large communities of Israelis living in America-in every city, in a position to influence Congress if not America’s current President. I feel it would be worth while to attempt to organize Pro Israel activists among this group. They have family here in Israel. How can they sit this chapter out?
What can your organization do to involve them at the grass-roots level?

I found the following statement by Lori Marcus to be very disturbing. Hopefully, the ramification of this statement was unintentional.

“I sleep better knowing that when my grandchildren ask me what I did to help prevent the destruction of Israel, I can tell them about Z STREET with a clear conscience and a sense of pride. What will you say?”

This implies that a time will come when Israel, chas veshalom, will no longer exist. I am sure that this was written in haste.

    • Lori Lowenthal Marcus on

Interesting, I hadn’t thought it would be read that way, but what I meant was that I would have been one of the people who helped prevent another genocide against the Jews. I certainly would not ever suggest that there will be a time when Israel will no longer exist. And that’s a reason to start and belong to Z STREET. Thanks for raising the question, it’s possible others read it that way as well.

  13. H & B Smigel on

I just sent a donation via PayPal. They replied and said it was sent to People Against Hate Speech aka Z Street. Is that your organization? Is “People Against Hate Speech” another name for Z Street? Or is something else going on here?

    • Lori Lowenthal Marcus on

Thank you for asking the question. There is a direction, but not a clear explanation, for this under the Dues and Donations tab on the homepage. PEOPLE AGAINST HATE SPEECH IS THE NAME UNDER WHICH THE ENTITY NOW KNOWN AS Z STREET, WAS INCORPORATED. The papers have been filed to include Z STREET as the officially recognized name, but until that happens this is the cleanest way to perform the transaction. For those who wrote checks out to Z STREET, there is no problem, we will take care of the accounting.

I am now in my eighties and I experienced the re-creation
of the state of Israel in 1947,48. I was asked by some
why can’t there be peace between the jews and arabs ?
I said because it is against their( muslims ) religion and
they will never make peace until they change their attitude. They do not want a state , they want it all.
They can not fathom having a Jewish state near them

I sent the following mail to Sec. of State Clinton on 4/2309:

“Do you really believe in the euphemism: “The Two-State Solution” for the Middle East?

In reality, the “Two-State Solution” has existed in Palestine for 61 years, when Jewish Palestine (called Israel) was established alongside the Palestinian state called Trans-Jordan (now known as Jordan). About 13 years ago these two states signed a peace treaty, in the presence of then US President Clinton. All this did not put an end to the continuing Arab struggle against Israel.

Today “The Two-State Solution” is in reality a 4-state solution, adding a Fatachstan and Hamastan. Fatachstan, led by the Chairman of the Palestinian Authority, has been unable or unwilling to agree to conditions that would provide some measure of security to Israel. Hamastan, led by the Parliament of the Palestinian Authority, has been leading an outspoken terrorist campaign to destroy Israel. Thus it does not appear that such a solution can ever succeed.

Please, please use all those great American brains to come up with an alternate plan that has some chance of success. (We certainly can’t expect that Hamas will answer your call to forego their terrorist struggle or agree to existing agreements).

As a US citizen, I would be privileged to provide my inputs. Let me know if you are interested.”

Of course, I did not receive a reply.

Kol HaKavod! I hope Z Street can be a positive organization to bring change. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to read about the Jewish American apathy going on. As I’ve stated several times to my family members in the States, our parents’ generation helped to build Israel and our childrens’ generation will help to destroy her! Making Aliya 21 years ago was the best thing I ever did for me and my children!

This site was sent to me by my sister, and I enjoyed reading the charter. I agree with everything but one: that it is leftist something or other to suggest that Israel should be a secular state. Israel can be a fully Jewish state, but the government should be secular, as should be the government of every nation in the world. I am concerned of the status of the ultra-orthodox, who are little more than parasites on the state, refusing to serve in the Israeli army, but exercising undue influence in the government. And with their uncontrollable birth rate, their ability to restrict the religious freedom of Jews in Israel will only increase.
There is one more suggestion I’d like to offer: do some research to learn more about the absolute legitimacy of the ‘settlements’. There have been no UN resolutions that speak to settlements.

What is ultimately both galling and an affront to generations of Jewish values, traditions, piety, tolerance as well as dangerous, is the self confidence that many so caled “liberal” Jews show by their political choice. It tends to be one dictated by what they regard as their Jewish identity, one forged out of their own ignorance and detachment from everything outside their own orbit of social standing among celebrities, media personalities and Hollywood stars.

They picture themselves as enlightened and the true inheritors of the mantle of Jewish concerns for “social justice” and will follow the Pide Piper of Chicago wherever he leads oblivious to all the evidence amassed and catalogued and shouted from the roof tops by the growing band of Jewish intellectuals, writers and politicians such as Fox News commentator Charles Krauthammer, former White House Press secretary Arie Fleischer, Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, Joshua Muravchik, columnist and editor of the Weekly Standard Bill Kristol, political analyst and former campaign advisor to President Bill Clinton, Dick Morris, Editor of Frontpage Magazine, David Horowitz, National Review columnist Jonah Goldberg, Senator Joe Lieberman, author and columnist Dennis Prager, writers snd journalists Bernie Goldberg, Dianne West and Monah Charen, editor of Commentary Norman Podhoretz, author Hillel Halkin who now resides in Israel, film producer David Zucker and comedian Jackie Mason among many others.

Many Jews in the United States whose parents and grandparents rejoiced at the rebirth of Israel in 1948 and regarded it mystically as partial compensation for the Holocaust have been psychologically intimidated by the constant anti-Israel line of the media and of the torrent of bloody confrontations picturing enraged Muslim mobs ready for constant mayhem to avenge what they regard as the worst injustice in human history (i.e. the creation of the Jewish State rather than the failure to establish an Arab Palestinian state).

They have now found a new way to assuage their consciences for the sins nearer to home of racism they imagine they are also responsible for as whites. They easily see Israel’s many flaws (both real and imagined) among which, the worst is that Israel, like America is a “privileged” society enjoying wealth amidst a world of misery. They flatter themselves that they are the modern day prophets who see “the writing on the subway walls” (as Paul Simon sung). They have earned for themselves the justifiable contempt of most Israeli Jews (both religious and secular) for their moral duplicity.

I am surprised that Torah and God is not mentioned once in the charter!

I would add the following lines the the charter:

[With Faith in God the Rock and Redeemer of Israel]
Z STREET is an organization of Zionists who join together at this time of great danger to the Jewish State of Israel and, increasingly, to world Jewry.

III. Z STREET maintains that Jews have the right to live anywhere in the world, including, and especially, within greater Israel. [As it is written: “‘I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; I will give it to you for a possession. I am the L-rd.'” (Exodus 6:8)]

    To yosef margoles
It’s about time the Jews in America figured out that Obama has the destruction of Israel in his sights. Here is a quote from one of Obmas books the Audacity of Hope: “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” Even now he concedes that Iran will be a nuclear weapons power. Please post your views on this conservative site. We also believe Israel has the write to live and would be honored to help your cause.

Sorry about the length–but we thought you should see our email to the ‘Jewish Presidents Conference:

We are the secular Christians for Zion. We believe the Conference statement was too polite and improperly subservient. We again see Jews pleading for something that is and has always been an inherent right for any Jew, regardless of nationality. And that right is to live wherever he or she chooses, anywhere between “the ocean and the sea” in the lands once universally recognized as “the Homeland for Jews” … this region was at that time called “Palestine.”

The contingent of weakened and yes, feckless Jews, who came along later allowed the Islamics to first hi-jack the name, “Palestine,” as a forerunner to the Arabist’s so-far successful wresting of lands that belong to Israel. These lands must be restored to Israel. The fact that a million Saudi-boughten voices cry out for killing Jews and/or exterminating Israel, does NOT make them right or moral or legal. Ever hear of the Salem Witch Hunt? Well, these Saudi shills are performing the same satanic rites as the Puritans who murdered women they decided to call ‘witches.’ And of course the murderers stole their victims’ properties and other titles and rights.

The soft-headed Jewish peace-fantasists and appeasers of yore, particularly Shimon Peres, foolishly (according to Joseph Farah) invited the camel into Israel’s tent and now this same Jewish claque tries to save face for having behaved so utterly fecklessly. Excessive posturing by old but unwise Jews paved Israel’s road to hell which path is now being greased by the undeservedly wealthy Saudi “royals.”

Oil-revenue enriched Saudis who have for the past four decades purchased the US State Dept. (BTW–everyone should repeatedly be told about the “presidential library” scam funded by the Saudis. For instance, the Clintons reportedly received around $20 million for Bill Clinton’s “Arkansas digs” a palatial edifice commemorating Bill’s administration. Former prezzies, such as the Bush Family and Carter received almost as much from the Sauds and the UAE. Colin Powell was made into a millionaire. Carter lives the jet-set life-style via his foreign-funded NGOs. You guys had best study US tax law pertaining to 501(c)(3) orgs to understand just why Carter currently solicits funds in the USA: to counter-balance the funds he gets offshore.

The correct language to use is not “should be allowed” but rather “Jews must not comply with rules discriminating against them. The are entitled to live wherever they choose in the entire region between the ocean and the sea and in all lands that were once universally known as “Palestine–the Jewish Homeland.” Moreover, Israel’s sovereign rights must not be trifled with by foreign states. This message must be repeated: The recognition of Palestine as the Jewish Homeland prevailed until the Brits grabbed the mandate over the region from the Turks and then cut illicit deals with the Islamics. The Brits sought favors from the soon to be new Arab states: think “Big Oil.” During the UK “reign” of Neville Chamberlain, who appeased Hitler and bowed to the Third Reich, Jews were too weak to battle prejudice and the illegal divestment of their rights and their properties. Many were forced to flee Europe, while others cooperated with the Third Reich, hoping to prove to the world that they were law-abiding, good Germans. These Jews perished in the Nazi death camps. And the Islamic mufti who was housed in Jerusalem aided the Nazis who blitzed London.

Jews must stand up like men and stop quarreling amongst themselves. They must demand what has always belonged to Israel. Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and Israel must openly recognize it as such. Old Jews seemingly are too weak because they are conditioned to tug their forelocks. Free people will not bend a knee to “royals”. Moreover, the Temple Mount MUST be restored to Israel–the deal that gave it away was not only illicit, but also broken by the Islamics decades ago. It must be reclaimed NOW, and especially NOW, given the insults uttered by that pampered puppet, Abdullah of Jordan, who thrives on funds lifted from American pockets.

We say : The lands of Israel were divided in 1948 and made into a homeland for the arabs who later decided they wanted to be known as “Palestinian.” There is no reason to redivide the remains of Jewish Palestine, now known as “Israel”. Israel must say so, too.

On Jul 24, 2009, at 8:24 AM, The Israel Project wrote:

We thought you would find this interesting

New York, July 21, 2009 … The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations has long advocated and supported the unity of Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel. As such, we believe that legal construction by residents of the city should be allowed as long as it is in keeping with the standards and requirements of the municipality and the national government. We find disturbing the objections raised to the proposed construction of residential units on property that was legally purchased and approved by the appropriate authorities. The area in question houses major Israeli governmental agencies, including the national police headquarters. The United States has in the past and recently raised objections to the removal of illegal structures built by Arabs in eastern Jerusalem even though they were built in violation of zoning and other requirements often on usurped land. In addition to the Jewish housing, the project called for apartment units for Arabs as well.

It is particularly significant that the structure in question formerly was the house of the infamous Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseni who spent the war years in Berlin as a close ally of Hitler, aiding and abetting the Nazi extermination of Jews. He was also linked to the 1929 massacre in Hebron and other acts of incitement that resulted in deaths and destruction in what was then Palestine. There has been an expressed desire by some Palestinians to preserve the building as a tribute to Husseini.

As a united city, Jerusalem’s Jewish and Arab residents should be permitted to reside wherever legal and security requirements allow. Hundreds of Arab families have moved into Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem and the same right should be accorded to Jewish residents in live where they choose in Jerusalem. To do otherwise would undermine and prejudge the status of the city.

No government of Israel has or can pursue a discriminatory policy that would prevent the legitimate presence of Jews in any area of its capital.

The Presidents Conference is the central coordinating body for American Jewry, representing 52 national Jewish agencies from across the political and religious spectrums.

wondered if you want to post this rally as well on the blog

When Shalom International rallies for Israel and Against Obama in Chicago, Daley Plaza, by Picasso, on Aug. 9, Noon to 3 P.M., we want you to understand that we are not alone and that the tidal wave of Jewish opposition to Obama is taking hold.

    • Eric V on

      Shalom Yosef,

I am glad you will be at this rally in Chicago on Sunday. I am speaking at this rally; I have been working with Bob Kunst on the logistics for this rally.

The time is NOW to take a stand firm for Israel. On Friday, 2 January 2009, just before the start of Shabbat, about 120 of us stood together on a cold winter day outside the Israeli Consulate at East Wacker Drive.

We were up against 3,000 pro Hamas supporters. That was a frightening afternoon, as an Israeli flag with a swastika was burned, coins and stones were thrown at us, a member of our group was physically assaulted by a Palestinian who broke through 2 police barriers. The utterances we heard from these pro Hamas supporters cannot be repeated in synagogues. We know the enemy is in our midst.

The Chicago Police Department was completely unprepared that afternoon. Due to being surrounded on all three sides with our backs to the Chicago River, the Chicago Police Department had to finally escort our group to a safe area. The scene: the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago.

The following Shabbat on Friday, 9 January 2009, we witnessed attacks on five synagogues.

This Sunday on 9 August 2009 at the Daley Plaza in downtown Chicago, our voices will be heard as we speak on behalf of our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisrael.

      Eric V
